Completion of Heritage Restoration

The restoration of the heritage wharf buildings on-site at Howard Smith Wharves are now complete and ready for fit-out.

The heritage buildings are to be transformed into restaurants, bars and event venues with 2.7 hectares of open space surrounding the buildings for Brisbane residents and visitors to enjoy.

The old wharf buildings have been brought back to life thanks to the Howard Smith Wharves team, Hutchinson Builders, Woods Baggot and Urbis who were attracted to the character of the heritage buildings and adapted designs to create spaces for the public to enjoy our Brisbane history. Where possible the existing materials have been kept and reused.

The Heritage Hero Status was awarded to Howard Smith Wharves by the National Trust for excellent acumen in managing a development that impacts on all three areas of Heritage ( Built, Environmental and Cultural).

Howard Smith Wharves are currently the only precinct that so far has met this benchmark of excellence.
