Celebrating and giving back to our community is at the core of HSW and sees us undertake numerous sponsorships, partnerships, and fundraising activities each year.
These initiatives aim to bring the community together, support art and cultural events, and provide financial assistance to grassroot charities and community groups.
What we're doing
Building partnerships to protect our waterways
HSW has partnered with OzFish and continues to fundraise on behalf of Healthy Land and Water to support their Clean Up Program – a frontline project in the fight to combat the impact of marine debris in South East Queensland’s waterways and bay areas. In 2022 Felons became an official sponsor of the Clean Up Program.
Their Clean Up crew collects floating and bank-bound litter from our waterways, removing the waste before it flows out into Moreton Bay where it can do untold harm to our marine wildlife and ecosystems.
Over the last 2 years Howard Smith Wharves has been supporting the Moreton Bay Shellfish Restoration Project through an oyster recycling program, and in 2022 HSW proudly became official sponsors of the project.
Supporting local farmers
We are working towards 100% zero waste by processing brewery and food waste through three on-site, closed-loop composters, turning the potential landfill into a healthy natural fertiliser.
As part of our landfill diversion initiatives left over spelt grain from Felons Brewery and composted waste is provided free of charge to like-minded suppliers and farmers including Maleny Dairies, Echo Valley Farm, and The Mini Farm Project.
These waste products are repurposed as animal feed and nutrient rich fertisiler, promoting a closed-loop system and encouraging sustainable farming practices.
Community Raffles + Sunday Family Funday
Every week across Howard Smith Wharves guests are invited to help raise funds for local charities and community groups through the Community Family Fun Day.
Raffle tickets are sold across the venues with prizes on offer including meat trays, wine, and dining vouchers.
On Sunday’s HSW invites the community down to join in free activities including, live barrel painting, live music, family trivia, face painting, balloon twisting, arcade games and reptile shows.
Art Community
HSW is all about heralding a new era of ideas, reflecting the city’s status as Queensland’s home of arts, culture and creativity, while still respecting and celebrating our heritage. We’re always eager to connect with and support like-minded locals on their quest for artistic expression.
The Brisbane Portrait Prize is all about celebrating Brisbane portrait artists and their sitters, while encouraging public engagement with the arts. Howard Smith Wharves has been a proud sponsor of the Packer’s Prize for the last 3 years and will be continuing to sponsor this particular prize for 2023.
Brisbane Street Art Festival (BSAF) is an annual public art event that seeks to provide opportunities for creatives and the wider community to develop positive partnerships through engagement and collaboration.
As an avenue for artistic expression, BSAF endeavours to create a multi-disciplinary platform that encourages any and all art forms to participate. BSAF provides a framework of showcase and engagement for public art across Brisbane.
Felons and Howard Smith Wharves have been proud sponsors of the festival for the last 3 years and are thrilled to once again be involved for 2023.
HSW Annual Golf Day
The Annual HSW Golf Day brings together our team and external suppliers to have fun while raising funds for the Challenge Foundation – a not-for-profit organisation that supports children and families living with cancer, 365 days a year. Their support is free and immediate, helping to lighten the cancer journey by addressing the practical, social, and emotional needs of their members.
Support & Donations
HSW is proud to support the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust that has been caring for the Brisbane community since the 1960’s, providing critical grants and support to local and grassroots charities who help people dealing with our city’s biggest social challenges.
In addition to this HSW regularly provides donations to local fundraising initiatives and support for community initiatives including participation in the Brisbane Outdoor Gallery Program, Fundraising for Red Cross QLD and the NSW Flood Appeal, Sponsorship of the New Farm Park Website + more.
